Current projects

  • “The Dynamics of Online Collaboration in Knowledge Communities: Compositions, Factors, and Evolvements”, Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 2017-2019, PI
    Abstract: Online knowledge community is a social network concerned with the creation, sharing, and transfer of knowledge. Knowledge collaboration is a key factor in sustainable development and success of online communities. This research aims to investigate the collaborative process during which contents are created. We plan to conduct case studies, user experiments, log analysis to analyze the composition of online knowledge collaboration, identify influencing factors and their relationships, evaluate the outcome and benefits of collaboration, and design a prototype for a knowledge collaboration support system. The results of this research will advance our theoretical understanding on the composition, factors, and evolvement of online knowledge collaboration, provide guidelines for encouraging positive and effective collaboration in knowledge communities to generate a sense of community and create more high-quality content, and suggest design implications for systems and tools that support online knowledge collaboration.
